When my twin sister, Brittany, and I were in undergraduate school at Fisk University, we ardently pursued study abroad opportunities. We were both Spanish majors, and decided to embark upon an almost 2 week journey in Spain via Education Forward (EF) Tours.
What a marvelous adventure it was! True to our food-loving natures, we ate our way from landing to take off and relished each and every morsel of culture infused deliciousness. One pairing that we could not leave Spain without delving into was Churros con Chocolate (churros with hot chocolate). The powerful taste of dark chocolate accompanying the fried, sweet churro was exceptional - strongly recommended, indeed.
Within Traditional Chinese Medicine, cacao (dark chocolate) can be used medicinally to address the following conditions: Lowering blood pressure, weakness after long illness, anti-aging, fevers due to colds, cold chest, poor appetite, anxiety, depression, heavy feelings in the chest, lethargy, low energy.
An interesting fact is that while chocolate originated in the Americas, two-thirds of today’s cacao comes from West Africa, mostly from the Ivory Coast. [1]
Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make your very own chocolate at home - from the fruit to a cholate bar. #NourishWithIntention
