As we can all attest to, at some point or another in our wellness journey's, we can get off track. Transparently, from late April into May, I have been in survival mode - just trying to make it until the end of the school year! Now that the school year has ended, and is lovingly seen in the rearview, I have a profound awareness of how my physical body has been neglected. From the twinges in my low back, to the radiating pain down the side of my left leg - I am familiar with the pain of deprioritizing myself.
Sciatica has come as a timely reminder to reprioritize myself again. I recently learned the affirmation "After me, anyone else can come first" and it poignantly reminds me that I must nourish and care for myself in order to even have the capacity to care for others. Convicted, am I! In the spirit of "Physician, heal thyself" I began this day with the following intentional self-care rhythm.
Stretching: Yin Yoga and Qi Gong
My twin sister, Brittany, and I participated in a deliciously restorative Yin Yoga and Qi Gong practice this morning that left our bodies feeling so loved and limber! Black Yogi Nico Marie and Qigong Meditation are two of my favorite sources from which to learn, grow, and heal in caring for my temple.
Communal Care: Sister Massage
There is nothing like having sister that sees you! After I shared that I was experiencing sciatica and low back pain, she told me to lay across the yoga mat and proceeded to give me a thoughtful and needed massage. Whew - Them hands is strong! I have such tremendous gratitude in my heart for her presence in my life.
Hiking in Community: Trumbull, CT
After our stretch session, massage, and pitstop at our smoothie bowl spot, Paul, Brittany, and I were ready for our hike at Pequonnock River Valley State Park. This serene, lush, and scenic environment was intensely vibrant and therapeutic. I was able to deeply breathe and presently reconnect with myself and with the natural environment.
Please comment below to share how you care for your temple with intention. I look forward to learning all of the incredibly different forms that your self-care rhythm can take! #Gratitude
