Mahasati Meditation: Moving Toward Stillness

On June 5th 2021 my husband, Paul, and I got married in Jacksonville, Fl. Just a few weeks later we participated in our first 5-Day Residential Silent Retreat with Thai Forest Monk, Ajahn Da, and Psychologist Michael Bresnan at the Wisdom House Retreat Center in Litchfield, CT - whew, talk about a challenge!

Although the timing of this retreat was interesting to say the least, it was important for us to begin the process of learning how to be present in each moment. Our world is so intentionally loud, distracting, & confusing, and is becoming more cacophonous at an alarming rate. For this reason, learning how to quiet the noise within is an important skill for sanity, clarity, and survival.

Cultivating inner peace is a spiritual rhythm and one way to learn is through engaging in a consistent meditation practice. There are a plethora of different meditation styles from various linages, cultures, and spiritual disciplines. Throughout the retreat, we learned the Mahasati (movement) style of meditation. A form of vipassana or insight meditation, Mahasati meditation uses the movement of the body to generate self-awareness and self-realization. Mahasati in Pali means “great awareness." [1]

Here is a great step-by-step 15 minute guided meditation to begin or jumpstart your journey toward internal peace and wellness. #BeStillandKnow
